Trebinje, is the most southern municipality in the Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, it lies below the Leotar mountain and expends along both sides of the Trebisnjica River, which flows through the heart of the city. Trebinje is located some 24 km far away from the city of Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Cost. It is estimated that in the area of 904 sq. km in the municipality of Trebinje, about 35 000 people live in 140 settlements, and an average of 35 people live in an area of one sq. km. More that 26 000 people live in the city. Trebinje has very unique urban characteristics that nicely fit with its ambience which are characterized with a crystal clear river, white lime stones and green vegetation.  According to economic parameters, the municipality of Trebinje is one of the more developed municipalities in the RS. Trebinje has a huge industrial and energetic potential. It especially developed its hydroelectric potential with its, artificial lakes, tunnels, and several hydroelectric plants. The river Trebisnjica is the biggest sinking river in Europe. Electric power sector would be expanded, through implementation of the project “Upper Horizons” with the general concept of “Water and land management in the river basins”. Therefore the basic concept of this system is the collection of accumulated waters of eastern Herzegovina into a single accumulation, so as to maximize effects of its numerous uses. The industrial development caused a large increase in the urban population of Trebinje. Industrial development stagnated from 1992 – 1995 due to war. After 1995 Trebinje entered a new phase of development with a better understanding of the huge tourism potential, a different and more affective approach to hydroelectric potential, agriculture and recovery of existing industry. Trebinje takes advantage of the Mediterranean climate and started to cultivate herbs, grape growing, fruits, vegetables and food grains. CULTURE Trebinje has a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages. Through the history in this region a number of civilization interchange and all of them left traces of their architecture, literature and in culture. Archeologists found traces of human settlements back 40 000 years ago. It is very interesting that cultural continuity did not interrupt in this area until today’s day. Trebinje largely escaped damage during the war and became home to a number of refugees across from Bosnia and Herzegovina.  CLIMATE Trebinje has a Mediterranean climate that is affected by mountains around it. Most of the mountains consist of lime rocks. This region is characterized by almost 300 sunny days in year and has a kind of natural weather circumstances that helps more that 100 different types of herbs to grow. These herbs have become very popular around the World, for their health benefits. Fruits, cherry, peach, plum, apricot, strawberry, fig, kiwi, pomegranate and so on growing is practiced widely in all region. In town during the winter snow is very rare, but in Orien, a close by mountain snow falls for over 120 days. The heaviest participation characterized the early Autumn. Rain prevails over snow.
